5-Way Secondary Barricade Override System

The 5-Way Secondary Barricade Override System is a specialist anti-barricade locking solution designed for behavioural healthcare, mental health, forensic, and secure environments.
Conceptually and mechanically designed by David Falkingham during his tenure as a Director at Safehinge Primera, the system was developed to provide multiple emergency override methods where barricade pressure is being applied against a door from inside a room.
The product continues to be manufactured and distributed within the healthcare sector today.
Product Description
The 5-Way Secondary Barricade Override System was developed to address the operational challenges faced within secure healthcare environments where conventional lock systems may become compromised during barricade incidents.
Designed specifically for mental health and behavioural healthcare settings, the system provides multiple emergency override methods intended to help staff regain controlled access quickly and safely.
Unlike conventional geared or clutched systems, the lock and internal turn/pull operate independently, ensuring direct mechanical override capability remains available during emergency situations.
Additional override methods were developed to assist where the primary keyway becomes obstructed, where excessive resistance is applied to the internal turn/pull, or where severe barricade pressure prevents conventional operation.
5 Override Methods
1. Key Override - The lock and internal turn/pull operate independently, ensuring the staff key maintains direct mechanical override capability during barricade situations.
2. Secondary Keyway Override - A concealed backup override method allows operation of the spindle if the primary keyway becomes obstructed or tampered with.
3. Emergency Turn Leverage - A dedicated emergency T-bar tool provides increased leverage to rotate the internal turn/pull mechanism during high-resistance scenarios.
4. Safety Spindle Override - The safety spindle is designed to shear under excessive resistance, allowing emergency access even where the turn/pull has been immobilised during a severe barricade attempt.
5. Pull Advantage System - The emergency T-bar tool provides increased pulling power to assist staff in overcoming barricade pressure and opening the door safely and efficiently.
